You may think a Will has to be complicated with lots of legal jargon – No! – If your affairs are straightforward the Will can be short and uncomplicated. Firstly list the things you own. This is called your Estate. Together with an indication of their value – your house, car, savings and insurance policies etc. Secondly think about whom you want to appoint to take charge of your Estate on your death and wind it up and distribute it according to your wishes. These persons are called your “Executors”. Thirdly how do I want to divide my Estate? The people who receive it are called “beneficiaries”. There are two kinds of beneficiaries. Firstly those who you want to leave a particular item for example your jewellery, your motorbike or fixed sums or donations to charity and secondly your main beneficiaries, those who will receive the remainder of your Estate called the residue after payment of your debts and taxes for example your husband, your wife, your partner, your children, your parents or even the cats home! Fourthly do you need to appoint a guardian to look after any child of yours who might be under the age of 18 years at your death? Fifthly may have a particular wish for a cremation or buried and if so this can be included in your Will. You can even list those hymns you wish to be sung at your funeral! When you have done the above call Essex Wills on 01702 559191 to make an appointment. |
